Cellulite and Stretch Marks

What is Cellulite - Myths Exploded

Cellulite is not the result of too much fat in your body. The actual cause of cellulite occurs internally with the weakening of the skin cells and connective tissue. As the skin sustains damage from a myriad of sources, such as aging and the environment, it loses its essential water and weakens. Cellulite and stretch marks are caused by skin that has deteriorated and dehydrated to the point where buoyant fat cells trapped just below the skin are able to push into the dermis, the middle layer of skin, and show through the surface.

If we are to repair cellulite and stretch marks, we need to focus on repairing the dermis, not on burning fat. By simply adding key skin hydrating, cell-fortifying nutrients to our diets we can rebuild, re-hydrate, and revitalize our skin, forcing stubborn fat cells back invisibly below the surface – and keeping them there.

What Can I Do to Help Repair/ Prevent Damage?

You need to maintain the moisture balance and improve the elasticity. You really do get what you pay for. A basic body lotion does not contain the specific ingredients needed, so don't cut corners.

DermaQuest's DermaGlow Self Tanning products gradully build a safe, healthy glow to compliment your natural skin tone.

What Causes Stretch Marks?

They occur because skin is exceptionally distended or stretched for a period of time, which causes the skin’s support structure (the collagen and elastin) to break down.

So, What is a Maternity Stretch Mark?

A maternity stretch mark is the surface scar of a tear that has formed below the skin’s surface. They appear as raised red welts over the torso, especially the breast area and abdomen and hips, in some cases as far down as the backs of knees. The medical name is ‘striae distensae’.

Will I Get Maternity Stretch Marks?

There is a genetic pre-disposition towards them – unfortunately, it is impossible to predict - until it is too late – and you have them. If your mother had stretch marks or if you already have the fine silvery lines of teen-growth stretch marks, you are most vulnerable.
